狗狗干洗毛发 & 清理眼睛小知识 | How To Use Dry Clean Powder & Eye Cleanser

New furparents might feel the need to shower their puppy often because of their oily and sticky coat. However, a proper dry clean without water is enough; when done right, it can even remove the poo stains on their fur and eye discharge.

How to dry clean your dog’s coat

To remove excessive sebum from the coat:

Instead of showering your dog, you can opt to dry clean their fur. You just need to sprinkle the dry cleaning powder evenly on the coat, and brush it layer by layer with a slicker brush. Use your left hand to hold the coat and right hand to brush it in forward slowly, so that the root of the fur is brushed thoroughly. The dirt, sebum, and tangled hair will be removed and fluffiness will return.

To remove poo stains from the coat:
If there are minor poo stains on the coat, instead of wiping it with a wet tissue or wet cloth, dry cleaning powder could be more effective and less messy. Because the dry powder won’t moisten and spread the area of the stain. But of course if it’s a case of serious diarrhea, then a proper water shampoo bath is required.

To dry clean the face area:
When dry cleaning the face area, cover the eyes with your palm and sprinkle the dry cleaning powder onto the face, so that eyes, nose, and mouth are protected. When brushing the face area, you can use a pin comb instead.

RECOMMENDED PRODUCT for dry cleaning your dog’s coat:
Bioline Dry Clean Shampoo

After a bath, make sure to blow your dog’s hair until the coat is completely dried, especially in country like Malaysia with hot and humid weather. If not, it will lead to more excessive sebum and therefore harder to maintain its fluffiness.

How to remove discharge from dog’s eyes

A dog’s eye discharge can stain the fur on its face if it’s not cleaned properly with eye cleanser. Eye discharge will leave a brownish tearstain that usually has a stinky smell.

If your dog is obedient, eye-cleaning can be easily done by one person, with one hand holding the jaw fur, and another hand wiping the eye area. For dogs that are more hyperactive, two people may be needed to perform the cleaning, with one person holding the cheek and another person doing the wiping.

Drop the eye cleanser onto a cotton pad, gently press it on the eye discharge area for around 5 seconds. Repeat this for about 3 times. However, most eye cleansers in the market are mostly to remove tearstains, so remember to wipe the area with cotton pads damped with water for the final wipe. Only eye drop cleansers are safe to be applied into the eyes.

After using the eye cleanser, you may wipe the damp fur with tissue, followed with blow drying in the cool air setting, and finally tidy up the coat with a pin comb.

Generally small dog breeds and breeds with bigger eyeballs like the Shih Tzu, Pekingese, Poodle, and Bichon Friser tend to have active tear glands and tearstain problems. Daily cleaning with an eye cleanser would be highly encouraged.

Of course bushy, unkept hair that keeps poking their eyes and eating too much salty food may lead to excessive tear discharge problems too.
